ELIZABETH WING BANGERTER

Mrs. Frederick Bangerter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Logan E. Wing, was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, October 25,1911.  She graduated from two St. Joseph schools, Central High School in 1931 and St. Joseph Junior College in 1933, and received a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri in 1935.  Four years later she published a book on Indian battles.

In 1938 Miss Wing purchased the publishing rights of the paper Winners of the West, a monthly paper for veterans, their widows, and other survivors.  For five years she chose the task of helping to maintain interest and keep fresh the memories of the ever-dwindling numbers of Indian War veterans, thus following in the tradition of the paper's late publisher and organizer, George W. Webb.

A year later Miss Wing issued the volume on Indian battles:  Chronological List of Engagements Between the Regular Army of the United States and Various Tribes of Hostile Indians Which Occurred During the Years 1790 and 1898, Inclusive. The book, considered the only authoritative record of its kind concerning Indian wars, was compiled by the late Mr. Webb, but finished and indexed by Miss Wing, and printed by the Wing Printing and Publishing Company of St. Joseph.

On June 6, 1942, Miss Wing married Frederick Bangerter.
