Bertha Sue Bangerter, born 2 November 1919 in St. Joseph MO
Married Adrianus Antonie Kaasjaager 14 October 1945
Died 19 February 2005 in Texas
Otto Bangerter left Switzerland for France to study horticulture under a French florist. On February 25, 1902 he arrived in New York on the vessel La Champagne, which sailed from Le Havre. His occupation is listed on the passenger manifest as 'gardener' and his purpose for entering the U.S. is listed as visiting his uncle F. Bangerter. No address is given for this Mr. Bangerter, but I assume it must be Friederich Albert Bangerter.
Otto settled in St. Joseph, Missouri, where there was a sizable population of Swiss immigrants. He met and married Emma Ogi in 1904. He was employed for many years by the Stuppy Floral Company, where he developed the Anna Laurie rose. He and his wife were members of the Swiss Lodge in St. Joseph, and also of Zion Evangelical Church at 9th and Francis Street, where they were married.
Otto and Emma are buried in Ashland Cemetery in St. Joseph, along with their daughter Susanna, who died at age 16 of epitaxis (nosebleed) complicated by hemophilia (although it's possible that it was not caused by hemophilia at all - the death certificate specifies that as a contributing factor in her death, but the disorder is rare in females, and that may not have been widely known at that time). My grandfather (her brother Frederick) remembered that she got very sick and that her nose would not stop bleeding.
